KEANO ‘WOULD HAVE WON APPEAL'

Fergie: "He must have thought seriously about appealing. There was a legal case and Roy would have won it hands down.

"That's because what they (the FA) did was to charge him over the book — yet the evidence they presented was magazine articles which were never even mentioned in his original charge.

"But that's the evidence they used to say he was guilty.

"They put him in the witness stand and then they hammered him for an hour and a bit with questions, questions, questions.

"And they kept bringing up the magazine articles — but he wasn't charged with that.

"The charge was over what he said in the book and he brought a witness saying that the author used artistic licence to promote and project the book."

"Ireland will be agog with stories about who's going to take over and Keane coming back — but the lad's not even back for us.

"But he's coming along well — he's in the gym working away. The real test will come when we put him out on the field.

"We haven't got the knowledge we would like about this injury — especially not at Roy's age. It's a tricky operation — you take the hip joint out, scrape the socket, clean it and put it back. You just hope it knits back properly."
