Key dates for Sir Alex Fergusons successor

Monday, May 13: Trophy parade - The new boss will watch on as Ferguson and a United squad he believes has the potential for greatness parade the club's 20th league title around Manchester. The 21st will be expected swiftly.

Sunday, May 19: Final day of the season - As the final whistle blows on Ferguson's reign following the Barclays Premier League clash against West Brom at the Hawthorns, plans for life after Fergie will begin in earnest.

Saturday, May 25, Champions League final at Wembley - Watching Bayern Munich battle Borussia Dortmund will be a reminder to the new United boss that his team will be expected to be involved in the European showpiece final in 2014.

Saturday, July 13: Match debut - The first of five pre-season friendlies on a tour which includes trips to Sydney, Yokohama, Osaka and Hong Kong, will be the new United boss' first match, versus a Singha All Star XI at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok.

Sunday, August 11: First competitive match - Wembley, with silverware at stake, in a possible Manchester derby... that could be the scenario for the first competitive match for Ferguson's successor as the Premier League champions take on the FA Cup winners, with Wigan or Manchester City to provide the opposition.

Saturday, August 17: First match of the Premier League season - United's bid to defend their title will begin on the opening day of the Premier League season, with the fixtures to be revealed on Wednesday, June 19.
