The Telegraph's take on last night's FA Youth Cup first leg

Middlesbrough 0 Manchester United 2

Kieran Richardson put Manchester United on course to lift the FA Youth Cup for the first time since 1995 with an outstanding personal performance and a cracking goal in the first leg of the final at the Riverside Stadium last night.

The midfield playmaker struck in the fourth minute from 22 yards after winning possession on the halfway line. Richardson surged forward before playing a one-two with Mads Timm and then beating Ross Turnbull with a crisp low shot.

United, coached by Brian McClair, were too strong and well organised for Boro, who will struggle to overcome the deficit at Old Trafford a week on Friday.
Ben Collett confirmed United's superiority with a stoppage-time goal, smashing the ball home at the far post after the defenders failed to cut out a cross.
