K-STAND TAKE NOTE

And you can't fault this lot:

The Turkish and Greek foreign ministers last night cut short a pre-match tour of Fenerbahce's stadium in Istanbul after they they were bombarded with parts of plastic seats and drinks containers by fans before the second-round game with Greece's Panathinaikos.

A rare meeting of representatives of these long-standing rival nations was billed as a goodwill game to aid the joint Turkey-Greece bid to host the 2008 European Championship.

But the build-up was marred by violence and tension. The missiles were believed to have been hurled from a section of Panathinaikos supporters in the 50,000 crowd.

Greece's George Papandreou and his Turkish counterpart Sukru Sina Gurel soon abandoned their touchline walk.

The game ended 1-1 with Angelinos Basinas striking early on for the Greek club and Cerquerira Washington replying just before half-time.
