Fury erupted in Italy at the weekend after Internazionale finally lost Ronaldo to Real Madrid and financially troubled Lazio saw their two top players, Hernan Crespo and the captain Alessandro Nesta, leave for the Milan rivals before the transfer deadline.

Around 300 hardcore Lazio fans wreaked havoc on Saturday night in Rome, wrecking offices and burning cars. In Milan there were protests at Ronaldo's behaviour in turning his back on Inter and seeking the move to Real which went through with the Brazilian valued at around £30m. Many Inter fans carried placards with the word "infame" - disgrace.

In the capital, Lazio ultras left the Olympic Stadium at the start of a friendly between their team and Juventus. They broke into some of the nearby national sports association's offices and smashed computers, photocopiers and desks before setting fire to papers. On the way to the offices they set fire to five cars and three kiosks. Two Juventus fans were knifed in their buttocks.
