LOOKING FORWARD TO MILAN

Fergie not scared:

"Playing Italian sides no longer holds the same trepidation it once did. In fact, I think it says a lot that Milan will rest five of their players when they play Cagliari on Sunday. I have been told Ancelotti will rest Kaka, Cafu, Nesta, Crespo and Gattuso to make sure they are fresh when they face us.

"That's amazing when you think that they are second in Serie A and challenging for the title, but it shows how far we have come at United.

"When we first confronted teams like Juventus in the early '90s, we were a bit overawed. But the more we have played against them the better we have become."

He added: "That's not to say we will underestimate them because Italian teams always do well in the big tournaments. But I definitely think one of the four English teams left in the Champions League can win it."

Fergie on O'Shea concussion:

"Theoretically, John will have to miss the Milan game and the match against Portsmouth next week. But we are sending him to see a specialist in an effort to get him cleared."

Fergie may risk RVN:

You see his record in Europe, it's the best," Ferguson said. "He's a different animal in Europe. It's a great challenge for him.

"I think it helped him scoring a lot of goals in his first season and that gave him the challenge to go on and be the best goalscorer in Europe. Every time he plays in a European game, you just know he's going to score.

"We'd have loved him to have games under his belt but we don't have any concern. He's been great in training. We may be putting him in cold, but if he stays like he is, we'll have done the right thing."

Andrei Shevchenko, presumably before he broke his cheekbone yesterday:

"It's going to be a difficult game and we know that. But it is a game all our players want to play in, and particularly me, because it's always exciting playing against the great sides.

"United have so many great players, many of whom are champions. I know about Rooney and I know he is very young and also very good.

"But it is the other players at United who have made football at Manchester what it is. Ryan Giggs, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Roy Keane and Paul Scholes - these are the players who have made history for the club.

"Young players like Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo still have to make their mark.

"In time, maybe they will do that and then they can be placed alongside the true greats of United's team."
