Luke Shaw hails Harry Kane as 'probably the best' striker in the world

Luke Shaw has claimed that England captain Harry Kane is 'probably' the best striker in world football.

Kane notched up his 49th goal for the Three Lions in their 2-1 friendly win over Switzerland on Saturday, with Shaw firing in England's equaliser after Breel Embolo had headed the visitors into an early lead.

After scoring from the penalty spot late on, Kane moved level on international goals with Sir Bobby Charlton, with Wayne Rooney's record of 53 goals now firmly in the Tottenham striker's sights.

Having already spearheaded England's charge to the World Cup semi-finals in 2018 and claimed the Golden Boot in doing so, Shaw believes that Kane - who he described as 'probably the best' striker in the world - will be out to claim the same prize again in Qatar.

"I don’t see why not," Shaw said. "For me at the moment, the way he’s playing, he’s one of the best strikers in the world, probably the best. So hopefully you can keep that form up, keep it going.

"He’s showing it week in, week out at the moment and it’s a joy to watch. Long may that continue and I’m sure he will be hunting another Golden Boot and all the other records."

Shaw's comments come after he admitted that he enjoys 'feeling wanted' in the England camp, and though he was quick to insist this was not a dig at club side Manchester United, doubled down on the sentiment after defending the Red Devils.

The 26-year-old has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford in recent weeks, with interim boss Ralf Rangnick opting to start Alex Telles at left-back instead.
