MADRID REACTION

This report from our Spanish correspondent.

General feeling last night is reflected in today's papers is
that last night will go down in the annals of European Cup
history and was the type of game that makes football great.

The ovation given to Ronaldo mightily impressed all the
Spaniards, as did the support from all round the ground. One
columnist bemoans the fact that he can't support two teams
because if he could, United would definitely be his second
team.

United - and their supporters - definitely gained the
respect of everybody, if that's any consolation.

Opinions expressed that last night should officially be made
the final, as the matches that are coming against Italians
will never match up to what we saw last night. One writer
calls for UEFA to issue a decree that United should be drawn
against Madrid every year just for the spectacle of seeing
the two greatest clubs in the world play each other.
