Manchester United have struck a deal with Lokomotiv Moscow to bring in Ralf Rangnick as their interim manager for the remainder of the season.
An agreement over personal terms was reached with Rangnick on Thursday, with the former Schalke boss set to take over for the next seven months before transitioning to a consultancy role for an initial two years.
All that was missing was an accord with Rangnick's current employers, Lokomotiv Moscow, but that was never expected to be a major issue.
According to Sky Sports News, the deal is done and Rangnick is now expected to head to Manchester to sign his contract this weekend.
He will then need to obtain a work permit, which is also not expected to be an issue, but it will prevent Rangnick from taking control in time for the trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on Sunday.
Instead, it will be Michael Carrick who remains in charge of the side, with Rangnick hopeful of beginning his work straight after.
United are understood to be thrilled to have someone with Rangnick's experience and knowledge as part of their team, with outgoing executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward believed to have personally pushed for Rangnick to take up a consultancy role once the 2021/22 season comes to a close.
Rangnick will likely be play a part in the search for a new permanent manager. 90min understands that the focus remains on Paris Saint-Germain's Mauricio Pochettino, for whom an enquiry was rebuffed earlier in the week.
United were open to making a permanent appointment immediately if the right candidate surfaced, but while Pochettino was identified as the dream target, PSG were reluctant to let him go midway through the season and put an end to that.
