Man Utd 'hopeful' Aaron Wan-Bissaka will be fit for Premier League opener

Manchester United are ‘hopeful’ that Aaron Wan-Bissaka will be fit in time for the start of the new Premier League campaign later this month, despite suffering an injury in pre-season.

Wan-Bissaka has started all three of United’s pre-season friendlies so far against Derby, QPR and Brentford and has travelled with the squad on a week-long training camp in Scotland.

However, with United’s opening game of the season against Leeds less than two weeks away, ESPN reports that the right-back has been given an individual training programme as a precaution.

There appears to be no urgent concern about the 23-year-old but his condition will undoubtedly be carefully monitored by United staff to give him the best chance of being available to face Leeds.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad lacks depth in the right-back position. Diogo Dalot, who is currently with the squad in Scotland, spent last season on loan at AC Milan and his immediate future remains uncertain as he would be unlikely to command the regular game time he craves if he stays.

A potential transfer for Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier to add depth to the position also now looks unlikely to go ahead until a little later in the transfer window.

On the opposite side, ESPN adds that United medical staff have passed Luke Shaw fit following his return to training. The left-back was carrying rib and wrist injuries while in action for England at Euro 2020 and it would have been a blow for him to miss any action after finally finding his best form.

It was recently reported that Shaw himself has been confident about being fully fit for the Premier League opener against Leeds and that now appears it will be the case following a green light from the medics and a first training session with the rest of the squad on Monday.
