Man Utd predicted lineup vs Atalanta - Champions League

Manchester United are looking to build on Saturday's Premier League win over Tottenham as they return to Champions League action this week with a trip to Italy to face Atalanta.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is fighting to save his job and a 3-0 victory in north London was only the first step in securing his longer-term future.

United will move closer to the Champions League knockout stages with a win in Bergamo on Tuesday night, but any other result would leave them with plenty of work still to do.

Here's a look at the starting XI the boss could pick...

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

David de Gea (GK) - United's leaky defence this season hasn't been the goalkeeper's fault.

Victor Lindelof (CB) - Kept his place on Saturday, despite the return of Varane, because of the change in system and it is likely to be the same here.

Raphael Varane (CB) - In line for only his second Champions League start as a United player. His return from injury at the weekend made a world of difference against Spurs.

Harry Maguire (CB) - The captain's recent poor performances against Leicester, Atalanta and Liverpool were likely down to a lack of fitness following his recent injury absence. He is getting better.

2. Midfielders & wing-backs

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (RWB) - His defensive covering, tackling and one-on-one defending was the subject of praise against over the weekend. Has to give more going forward, especially as a wing-back.

Scott McTominay (CM) - Probably hasn't been fit for most of the season because of pre-season injury trouble but looked more like the driving force and engine room against Tottenham that he has long threatened to be.

Fred (CM) - Solskjaer has a decision over whether to recall Paul Pogba, who is eligible to play in Europe regardless of his domestic suspension. But the logical choice to ensure a more disciplined shape says Fred.

Luke Shaw (LWB) - Needs to be seriously looking over his shoulder because his place is under threat from Alex Telles. Performance levels this season have fallen away, probably because he is exhausted.

Bruno Fernandes (AM) - If he plays more in tune with the rest of the midfielders, his performance will be more profitable than it has been in recent times.

3. Forwards

Cristiano Ronaldo (ST) - His goals will continue to drag United through. Looks committed to leading this group out of their slump, despite critics claiming he only has selfish intentions.

Marcus Rashford (ST) - Has looked sharp and hungry since his return to action from summer surgery and scored again off the bench on Saturday.
