Man Utd predicted lineup vs Newcastle - Premier League

Manchester United return to Premier League action on Saturday afternoon, taking on struggling Newcastle United at Old Trafford.

Of course, all the fanfare that surrounds this match involves a certain new signing, and whether he will make his grand, fairytale return against the Magpies.

Cristiano Ronaldo has joined his new teammates in training this week, and they'll all be desperate to impress the Portuguese legend. The 36-year-old will expect to start at the weekend, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can be cautious when throwing players headfirst into a new environment.

This is Ronaldo, though - literally one of the best to ever do it. Will he get his start then?

Here's 90min's predicted lineup for Man Utd on Saturday.

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

David de Gea (GK) - Has the real De Gea finally stood up? The Spaniard was simply brilliant against Wolves, making one of the best double-saves that the Premier League has ever seen. He's keeping his place in the side.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (RB) - Perhaps we'll see a more confident Wan-Bissaka going forward from now on, given the calibre of defender now playing alongside him. Saturday is a great chance to rack up some assists.

Raphael Varane (CB) - A clean sheet and an assist on your debut is not bad going, is it? There are no doubts that Varane retains his place ahead of Victor Lindelof.

Harry Maguire (CB) - Captain of the ship and a deserved one at that. Maguire has long needed a solid partner in defence, and we might finally enjoy the very best of the England star in Man Utd's backline.

Luke Shaw (LB) - One of the best left-backs in the world and that cannot be argued. Shaw is enjoying the type of form we hoped for when he joined the Red Devils all those years ago, while bagging the nickname Shawberto Carlos in the process. Can't argue with that.

2. Midfielders

Nemanja Matic (CM) - Scott McTominay would be first-choice at the heart of the midfield, but he's still on the road to recovery from groin surgery. Matic will slot in and try to keep Newcastle's threat to a minimum.

Paul Pogba (CM) - His best performances have come in a freer, left-wing role, but given Fred's ban following his travels to Brazil and McTominay's injury, Pogba will drop into midfield. Anyone heard anything from Donny van de Beek's agent recently?

Bruno Fernandes (AM) - He started the season like a house on fire, but Fernandes has gone pretty quiet ever since. He needs to adapt to the more lenient refereeing style, and fast.

3. Forwards

Mason Greenwood (RW) - The England star has looked much better starting in a central role this season, although he did bag the winner coming from the right wing against Wolves. There's a new man down the middle, anyway...

Cristiano Ronaldo (ST) - That's right - Ronaldo should start. The 36-year-old has trained with the team, he's already got plenty of match practice under his belt and is ready to go. What's the point in sticking him on the bench? It's show time.

Jadon Sancho (LW) - Completing the forward line is Sancho, who has returned to training following an injury he picked up on international duty. He will want to put in a better showing than his display against Wolves.
