Man Utd predicted lineup vs Southampton - Premier League

Manchester United are looking to keep up their exceptional start to the Premier League season when they visit Southampton on Sunday afternoon.

United thrashed Leeds 5-1 at Old Trafford last weekend to go top of the table after the first round of matches, while a poor Saints side were beaten 3-1 by Everton, despite taking the lead.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was delighted with how his team approached the game against Leeds, playing with tempo and always looking to pass forward and attack.

Here’s a look at the United XI the manager could pick this week…

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

David de Gea (GK): The Spaniard wasn’t particularly busy against Leeds last time out and is still likely to get the nod in goal as Dean Henderson remains a doubt.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (RB): Scored one of only two Premier League goals last season against Southampton and may see this game as an opportunity to get forward more often.

Victor Lindelof (CB): Whether or not he was directly motivated by seeing the reception Raphael Varane got before kick-off, the fact is the Swede played really well last week.

Harry Maguire (CB): Strong at the back in the season opener, although he will still likely wait to be partnered by Varane for the first time as the Frenchman builds up his fitness.

Luke Shaw (LB): Has come to be a consistent performer for United on the left after years of ups and downs. Impressed against Leeds and back-up Alex Telles is still injured.

2. Midfielders

Scott McTominay (CM): Withdrawn early against Leeds to protect his fitness after a limited pre-season, but had been a dominant force in midfield during his 69 minutes on the pitch.

Fred (CM): Scored a rare goal against Leeds and then got on the score-sheet again a few days later when United hosted Burnley in a closed practice game at Old Trafford.

Bruno Fernandes (AM): The Portuguese talisman broke forward from midfield at will against Leeds and was rewarded for it with his first United hat-trick.

3. Forwards

Jadon Sancho (RW): In line for his full Premier League debut after coming off the bench a week ago and then starting the practice match against Burnley in midweek.

Mason Greenwood (ST): Justified his selection in a ‘number nine’ role ahead of Anthony Martial against Leeds and could get the nod again.

Paul Pogba (LW): Will start from the left but ultimately the Frenchman’s role will be a fairly free one to get the most out of him creatively. It worked last week because he got four assists.
