Man Utd Revive Interest in Sporting CP Star Bruno Fernandes Ahead of Portugal Scouting Trip

Manchester United are set to revive their interest in summer target Bruno Fernandes during the January transfer window, despite the Portuguese star signing a new contract in November.

Fernandes was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford over the summer but a deal failed to materialise for the Sporting CP midfielder, who subsequently put pen to paper to extend his stay in Portugal.

However, Goal reports that United have not given up on capturing the 25-year-old and the Red Devils are set to begin a major scouting mission to keep tabs on the talented Sporting captain.

The Premier League giants will send representatives to watch every game played by Sporting, Benfica and Porto over the coming weeks as they look to identify potential transfer targets for the coming windows.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is desperate to add some flair to his midfield, given the lack of creative options available to him in the current United squad. Paul Pogba is struggling to overcome an ankle injury which has plagued the French star since the middle of September, and Solskjaer's side looks toothless in his absence.

The 26-year-old has made only seven league appearances this season and he is being heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford. Solskjaer has opted for a midfield consisting of Andreas Pereira, Nemanja Matic and Fred of late, resulting in a lack of spark in front of goal.

Fernandes has been in sensational form for Sporting this season, bagging six goals and seven assists in 13 league appearances, and his standout performances have led United to take an interest in his services once again.

The attacking- midfielder's new contract runs until 2023, meaning the Portuguese club are in no rush to sell their star asset. The deal does include a €100m release clause however, which Sporting will have to accept if the figure is met.
