Manchester United announce summer tour of Thailand & Australia

Manchester United will head to Thailand and Australia this summer for their first pre-season tour since the pandemic.

The Red Devils were trendsetters in jetting off around the world to build their brand during pre-season in the past, but like all sides have had to shelve their plans to go globetrotting over the summer because of various Covid-19 restrictions.

However, Man Utd confirmed on Thursday that they will be heading abroad once again this year, with a tour of Thailand and Australia planned.

They will square off against bitter rivals Liverpool at Bangkok's Rajamangala Stadium on 12 July before heading south to Australia.

United will twice play at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground in their time down under, firstly against local club Melbourne Victory on 15 July and then Premier League side Crystal Palace on 19 July.

John Murtough, United's football director, said in a press release: "Pre-season tours are such an important part of the squad's preparation for the season ahead, so it's crucial to have excellent training facilities and high-quality opposition.

"We're delighted that we'll have both these things during our visits to Bangkok and Melbourne this summer, and we're looking forward to playing in front of our fans in both cities for the first time in a number of years."
