Manchester United Planning £80m Summer Move for Leicester Star James Maddison

Manchester United are reportedly planning to make a £80m move for James Maddison this summer.

The Leicester City midfielder - who signed for the Foxes for a fee of around £20m from Norwich at the beginning of last season - has been in good form this campaign.

Maddison has been at the heart of a Leicester side that have defied expectations and put together a strong bid for Champions League qualification.

These fine performances have unsurprisingly seen him linked with a move away from the King Power Stadium and the Daily Star are claiming that United are 'confident' that 22-year-old can be lured to Old Trafford in the summer.

Despite their confident reporting, the Star offer little in the way of explanation as to why Maddison would want to give up a chance to play in the Champions League with Leicester for the uncertainty of a move to the Red Devils.

In fact, recently it was revealed that the attacking midfielder was close to signing a new deal with the Foxes. In November a source exclusively told 90min that "Leicester are very confident that James will be signing a new deal."

"He loves playing with this group and he doesn't see any reason to move at the moment and Leicester will put him on wages befitting of his form as one of the Premier League's top midfielders."

There is no release clause in Maddison's contract currently and even with no new deal confirmed as yet, he still has three-and-a-half years left on his current package, meaning United would have to pay an exorbitant fee to secure his services.

The playmaker's price is also inflated by the fact that he is an England international who is likely to be selected in Gareth Southgate's squad for the Euros.
