Manchester United ready to sell Anthony Martial following Jadon Sancho arrival

Manchester United are ready to offload Anthony Martial this summer, having finally managed to land long-term transfer target Jadon Sancho.

The England winger's arrival was confirmed on Friday, completing a £72.9m switch to the Premier League outfit after they had pursued his services for two years.

While this big-money move was music to Man Utd supporters' ears, it could spell bad news for current forward Martial. According to the Daily Star, the Red Devils are keen to sell the Frenchman this summer in order to recoup some of the money spent on Sancho.

The 25-year-old has become a bit-part player under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, having failed to convince the Norwegian boss that he can lead the line or is worthy of a regular starting spot on the flank.

Martial featured only 22 times in the league last season, scoring four goals and laying on six assists. He did miss the end of the campaign with a ruptured knee ligament, but his performances prior to that injury were far from convincing.

The explosive end of season form of prolific forward Edinson Cavani landed the Uruguayan a new one-year deal at the club, which all-but confirms Solskjaer's intentions to stick with the former Napoli star as his number one striker.

For Martial, the end of the Man Utd road is fast approaching. Sancho's arrival might make him surplus to requirements at Old Trafford and he is far too valuable and expensive an asset to leave rotting on the bench.

The Red Devils know that the former Monaco man could command a hefty fee and they view his sale as an excellent source of income. Their pursuit of Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane also makes it vital to offload some stars, so as to reduce the wage bill and generate some cash.

Martial arrived at Man Utd as the most expensive teenager in the world back in 2015, and although he has shown flashes of his enormous quality, he has never consistently hit the heights expected of him.
