Manchester United reveal Jadon Sancho's shirt number

Manchester United have announced Jadon Sancho will wear the club's number 25 shirt having been officially announced as a Red Devils player.

Many had assumed the former Dortmund man would assigned the number seven shirt - a squad number which has become iconic at the club following the success of players like George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, United have now taken to their official website to confirm Sancho will don the number 25 from the beginning of the 2021/22 season.

"Manchester United can confirm that new signing Jadon Sancho will wear the number 25 shirt, after joining the club on a five-year deal. The 21-year-old completed his move from Borussia Dortmund earlier today and will be with the Reds until June 2026, with the option for a further year.

"And after endless speculation as to which United squad number the England international might acquire, we can finally reveal that 25 will be his."

The Red Devils finally announced the arrival of Sancho at Old Trafford following a transfer saga which seemed like it would never come to an end.

Following the official announcement, the England international admitted he couldn't wait to represent the club and that he's relishing the thought of playing in front of the United fans.

“I’m excited for the new season, especially as the first game is at home,” he said. “That’s always a confidence booster - to be in front of your own fans – so it will be nice. I can’t wait to get started and obviously want to bring trophies to where they belong. I can’t wait to get started - see you soon.”

Sancho could make his competitive debut for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side on 14 August, when they kick off their 2021/22 Premier League campaign at home to Leeds.
