According to reports on talksport Manchester United are ready to move for Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman, currently at PSV and it appears the club are resigned to loosing the 20-year-old and are already planning for his departure by earmarking Oscar Hiljemark of Elfsborg.

Sir Alex Ferguson is known to be an admirer of the youngster, keeping a close eye on his development for some time now and believes he would be able to prise him away from PSV for around ?14m.

It has been well documented in recent years that Manchester United's midfield lacks a real commanding presence and that is something that Strootman would definitely add.

United reportedly wanted the midfielder in the summer but chose to add fire power upfront instead in the form of Robin van Persie.

PSV are aware of United's interest whilst Italian giants AC Milan are also said to be keen but the Eredivise side will block any attempts to sign the player in the January transfer window.
