Manchester United v Manchester City- Striker head to head

Last updated : 08 April 2013 By DSG

Robin van Persie, bought from Arsenal last summer for ?24million has scored 19 league goals for Manchester United this campaign, contributing to their 70 overall in the league. The Dutchman, who rejected City for United, has been the major difference between the sides this season ? as United look to re-claim their crown.

For the majority of this season, Roberto Mancini has moaned about his side's lack of fire power. For all the millions thrown into his starting eleven, the Italian still see's fit to complain about his striker issues. Former Manchester United star Carlos Tevez is on 16, whilst Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko are on 13 goals each.

Manchester United's top league scorers:

Robin van Persie: 19 goals

Wayne Rooney: 12 goals

Javier Hernandez: 8 goals

Danny Welbeck: 1 goal

Manchester City's top league scorers:

Edin Dzeko: 12 goals

Carlos Tevez: 10 goals

Sergio Aguero: 9 goals

The gulf between the strikers is evident. Despite going cold in recent months, Robin van Persie's 19 league goals this season has been the difference between Manchester United and Manchester City. However, the Dutchman has gone rather cold in recent weeks ? failing to score in his last nine games for Manchester United.

However, after a career full of injury ? Robin van Persie has managed to last the majority if not all of this campaign injury free. The same cannot be said of Manchester City's star man. Sergio Aguero has had an indifferent season to last ? where he scored 30 goals in all competitions for his new side, 18 in the league.

Manchester United will be crowned Premier League champions this season ? and Robin van Persie will claim many of the plaudits. The Dutchman has been the difference between the two sides this season, and Roberto Mancini will be dissapointed he was not able to land the 29 year old last summer.
