Mason Greenwood remanded in custody after appearing in court charged with attempted rape

Mason Greenwood has been remanded in custody following an appearance at Manchester Magistrates' Court on Monday.

He will appear before Manchester Crown Court on November 21.

Greenwood has been charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault.

A district judge found that Greenwood had "persistently and flagrantly" breached bail conditions.

He was initially arrested in January 2022, but was only charged on Saturday shortly after he was re-arrested for this breach of bail conditions.

Manchester United confirmed shortly after his initial arrest that he would not return to first-team activities while the case was ongoing, and reaffirmed in a statement following his charges that he remains suspended.

"Manchester United notes that criminal charges have been brought against Mason Greenwood by the Crown Prosecution Service," the club said.

"He remains suspended by the club, pending the outcome of the judicial process."

Greenwood has not played for Manchester United since their 1-0 win against West Ham in January, days before his first arrest.
