MATCH QUOTES

Fergie:

"I heard Martin Jol on the radio saying on Saturday that it was probably a good time to play us and I thought 'oh, really?'

"It [Chelsea] will be a fantastic game. We need to make that second spot. Hopefully we can achieve that.

"It also keeps the fans interested, keeps everybody at the club interested and keeps the season bubbling away.

"That's because there are times when you have the title sewn up and there is a bit of complacency about the place."

More Fergie on MUTV:

"Wayne's capable of that. I said at the start of the season that we expect that kind of return from him.

"We battled well and stuck to our job well after their goal. Our football was good in the first half but we didn't play as well after half-time.

"Spurs deserve a lot of credit but my players worked very hard and I'm really pleased with the result."

Giggs:

"It was very nervous. Tottenham are playing very well so to come here and get a result we knew it would be difficult.

"We rode our luck sometimes but in the end we deserved it."

Jol:

"I think we punished ourselves.

"I can't remember a game in which we played so well and we're still 2-0 down. The first goal was lack of experience and then they had a break.

"It is a big disappointment because we had five chances before that. Even the central defenders had chances. We thought this would be a big day for us.

"We made some mistakes but the first 20 minutes was the best since I have been here. I really thought we could have got a point. But you cannot give away goals against top sides.

"I am disappointed. We deserved a point but we have to go to Arsenal and get a result."

Mourinho:

"We are close, more than ever, but we are not there yet.

"United's win over Tottenham was no surprise. I only watched the first half but for me it was a normal result.

"But I just want to be champions. Some people prefer to win it at home, some people prefer to win it away, but for me it is just to be champions.

"The next game is Manchester United and it is the match we want to win to be champions but if it was Blackburn or Newcastle, the desire would be the same - we just want to be champions.

"If the supporters want us to be champions at home then give us an extra push and maybe that extra push can take us to the silverware. The important thing is to finish the season in front of United. In the Premiership, the best team wins. It is about 10 months and 38 matches, it is not down to luck. It is about 10 months and the best team wins."
