McCLAREN BELIEVES IN TRIO

Steve McClaren takes control of his first England match at Old Trafford tonight and he had some kind words for three of United's players in the squad.

"I have always admired Wes and he did well last season when he played and again this pre-season," said the England coach.

"He looks to be back to his best. He could become a great central defender.

"Of the other United lads I remember seeing (Kieran) Richardson as a schoolboy and thinking then what a good prospect he was.

"Young (Ben) Foster did well at Watford last season and impressed everyone when he came into the squad in the summer."
