ME, MYSELF AND I

Michael Carrick has said that he is his own man and although there will be comparisons between Roy Keane and himself he's only concentrating on his own game.

"People are always going to talk," He said.

"Roy's a legend in the game, he's one of the greats and always will be.

"I'm my own man. I can't stop people talking about it, it's not something I'm really focused on.

"I'm focused on playing my own game and doing the things I do best, that's the best way to go for me.

"I put more pressure on myself to perform than anybody else does. I'm very critical of myself, highly critical, and I don't think anyone can be more than me."

Fergie was also quick to play down any comparisons. He said:

“People kept talking about replacing Roy Keane. But you just cannot get another Roy Keane, I have been trying for five years.

“You might need four players to replace Roy Keane because he was one of the best of all time.

“We had to find a good footballer with good ability who would give us alternatives.

“Michael Carrick gives us different qualities to the ones Roy had. He is an excellent footballer and has a good range of passing.

Roy was a possession player, a straight-forward A to B passer who had an incredibly high successful passing percentage. With Michael we have more imagination, he can hit longer passes.

“Most importantly he can also keep possession, which Roy was good at.”
