MEANWHILE, 30 MILES FROM GREATNESS

"The best teams usually bring the best out of us and fourth place is still there for the taking," said Houllier. "We need to go that extra mile. We usually perform well at Manchester United. Last year was different because we lost Sami Hyypia after four minutes.

"We have to be careful how we approach the game. Even if we only get a point, that could be a lead of an inch which would be important at the end of the season.

"I've said all along there would be twists and turns and teams will drop points. All the teams seem to be having injury problems. I think it'll go down to the wire.

"Despite the fact we had a bad week and lost five points out of six, there's no point regretting things. Even if we had three more points it would make a difference to us. But now we have to turn the page over the next four games.
"We have four left, Newcastle have five, but three of their games are away, including the game against us which means it's still in our hands."
