MEDIA WHORES

‘How inevitable was this week's synchronised attempt to rebuild the Beckham brand? He hi-jacks the start of England's Euro 2004 campaign to play the innocent victim of a vile conspiracy, while she tears herself away from visiting Peruvian rag-pickers who live on rubbish dumps (well, both owe their existence to recycling garbage so why not?) to stand by her man.

‘"It's just like a collection of women," she said of his accusers. "I couldn't tell you all their names." Well let me give you one woman's name which could clear up the whole mess. Sue.

‘But sue the Beckhams won't, despite being worth £100million, being fanatically defensive about their name, and issuing a statement at the height of the allegations that their lawyers were studying every spit and cough.

Isn't it strange they found nothing libellous to knock down what Beckham terms these "ludicrous" stories? Almost as strange as Beckham now claiming the Press has treated him disgracefully yet failing to deny the central allegation that he has been repeatedly unfaithful to his wife.

‘I don't care if Beckham knocked off the entire Madrid Flamenco Training School while Posh jetted around the world trying to convince us that we're tone deaf and she's Maria Callas. But I resent people who spend their lives manipulating the media into boosting their fame, then squeal like cornered rats when journalists report a side of them they don't want the world to see.

‘Remember the day after Alex Ferguson had inadvertently kicked a boot at Beckham, how he arranged for a photographer to snap him with his hair dragged back showing off his cut.

‘Remember Brooklyn's "kidnap", spotted by nobody (not even the CCTV cameras), which was reported to a tabloid newspaper before the police?

‘How about Beckham grabbing the front page headlines after England's last two competitive games by claiming he'd had death threats on the pitch? Not to mention the puke-inducing photo-opportunities they set up after Rebecca Loos spilt the beans.

‘Beckham is a victim of nothing but his own dishonest hype.’
