MISFORTUNE

Quinton Fortune has rejected suggestions that suspensions, injuries and new players are the reasons behind United's 'strife' this season

'It doesn't make any difference what the specific situation is - we know we could have done better this season,' Fortune told BBC GMR.

'Obviously, we would have loved Rio to be in the team and have no injuries throughout the season but we have so many talented players here anyway and we know we haven't done what we set out to do.

'No matter what team the manager puts out, we expect to win. Whether it is young players or senior players, at Manchester United you are expected to do a job.

'We haven't got the results we wanted and it has to be better next year.'
