‘Sir Alex Ferguson came out fighting last night when he vowed to strengthen his Manchester United squad in January with two new players after being given a £10million war chest by the Glazer brothers.
‘And German midfield star Michael Ballack, who will be available in the summer on a free transfer from Bayern Munich, is currently the centre of a tug-of-war between United and Real Madrid.
‘Fergie wants to sign at least two new players in the New Year to build on the success of Sunday's crucial win over Premiership leaders Chelsea and to restore United's flagging European hopes.
‘The Glazer family have told Fergie he has around £10m to spend on players in the transfer window and the United boss has already identified the targets he wants.’
