The Evening News has reported that Manchester United have
signed a deal with Barclaycard to promote credit cards to
overseas fans.

MBNA bank already run United credit cards within the UK
market, but Barclaycard is looking to crack the markets in
USA, China, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia and Thailand.

Gary Hoffman, Barclaycard chief executive, said:

“There is a massive international following for United and
we see this as a big opportunity which allows us to harness
the global power of the Manchester United brand with our
capability and expertise in the credit card market.

"This is a significant step towards our goal of building a
global card business and we are confident of making this
alliance a success for ourselves, United and of course
thousands of their fans around the world."

Manchester United managing director David Gill said:

“The proven success of our credit card in the UK, together
with the global reach of Barclaycard International, will
enable our international fan base to demonstrate their
support for the club in a very tangible form.

“This initiative will significantly extend the size, scope
and potential of MU Finance.”
