MORE FROM DAVID GILL

"We don't believe it's a power switch." Said Gill on Manchester United Radio.

"The changes yesterday won't affect what happens on the pitch. We did a lot of
transfer deals in the summer and we've still got the best manager in football, one of the best teams in Europe and the players will just get on with it.

"We've got great fans in this country and around the world - that's what separates us from our rivals. The institution of Manchester United is very strong and it's up to us as a board to make sure we protect and develop that institution. This is just an evolution. The speed of it and Peter going to a competitor raises the interest levels, but I don't think it detracts from what we're doing.

"There are always changes in football - we've sold Beckham and Veron this
summer - and businesses are the same. Chief executives come and go, that's
the whole point of the business world.

"Getting close to Sir Alex is one of my first tasks. I know him well, but he wasn't working directly with me in the past. But I know a lot of people in football so I'm comfortable with all that. It's all about covering the bases so we can go forward."

Gill has also filled Kenyon's shoes at G14, the grouping of 18 leading European
clubs.

A statement from G14 said:

"David Gill, 46 , will also move into the role relinquished by Peter Kenyon as G-
14 vice-chairman, member of the G-14 Management Committee, with immediate effect."

The share price also dropped by 4% after the news broke to the city but experts don't feel that this is a sign of things to come.
