Irish businessmen John Magnier and JP McManus have become Manchester
United's biggest shareholders after raising their stake in the club with a major
new investment.

United said in a statement today that the Cubic Expression Company, which
is controlled by racing tycoons Magnier and McManus, now held over 26.9
million shares in the world's richest football club.

A Manchester United official said the pair, who are close associates of
manager Sir Alex Ferguson, had raised their stake from 8.65 % to 10.37 %,
fractionally more than BSkyB, the pay television firm owned by media mogul
Rupert Murdoch, which owns 9.9 %.
