MORE WORLD CUP REDS

* Ronaldo: (The People)

The Manchester United trickster was in full showboat mode against Iran in Frankfurt and at times Brazilian coach Scolari was distinctly unimpressed by the youngster's flashy skills.

And with yesterday's Group D game against the competitive Iranians too close for comfort for Scolari, the no-nonsense coach could have done without some of Ronaldo's more impetuous excesses with the game finely balanced.

But all was forgiven when the £12.6million Old Trafford star smashed home an 80th-minute penalty to make it 2-0 and propel Portugal into the next round of the tournament with a game against Mexico to spare.

* Ruud talks about his vital goal against Ivory Coast:

"The goal was special - the best one I have ever scored in my career, and I have scored a lot.

"To score for the first time in the World Cup finals is something I will always remember.

"I was emotional after the goal because it meant such a lot to me. To score an important goal in my first World Cup is amazing because as a child you dream of these things. Everything at United can wait until the tournament is over for Holland."

* Ruud comments on the prospects of bumping into Heinze next week:

"I don't think he will make any exception for me.

"I know Gaby well. I come up against him in training quite often and I know how committed he is. Our game against Argentina might not be quite as important as it could have been but he will put everything into it - and more.

"I am so happy Gaby has managed to come back.

"You can only be impressed by the fact he has been out for so long, yet is producing those kind of performances over the past few days."

* Phil Neville talks about his brother:

"I wa gutted when I spoke to my brother, Gary, and heard the injury he picked up was threatening his World Cup.

"When he first found out he'd torn his calf muscle, he was devastated.

"He really thought after the first scan he'd be packing his bags and coming home - it was that bad."

* Ferdinand talks about Rooney:

"Wazza is not the type of person to hold back and we have to trust in the medical staff.

"He wouldn't be on the pitch if there was a possibility that he would be injured by one quick and innocuous challenge.

"He's very good physically. He's one of the fittest at Manchester United - other than myself of course.

"People talk about this and that but he runs more than anybody in our team and that's probably true with England as well.

"He did all that was asked of him. The most important thing for him at the moment is fitness.

"It would be nice if he could get a goal but he didn't have a chance.

"He did a couple of nice little touches but I'm sure he'll tell you himself there's always room for improvement."

* Bobby Charlton:

"We were concerned for Wayne himself because there is so much hype around him.

"With all the pressure we felt that if he came back into the game at the wrong time it would cause a long-term problem.

"Now he has come through it okay which is good. People will talk about match fitness but he looks good to me and does not look like he has put any weight on while he has been out."
