MR POT THIS IS MR KETTLE

Chelsea chairman Ken Bates has had a pop at both Fergie and
Wenger for, and try not to laugh here, not setting the right
example.

"When was the last time you heard him (Ranieri) slag off an
opponent or another manager? He leads from the top, and
that's why we don't have any disciplinary problems at
Chelsea," Bates told The Sun.

"When was the last time you heard Claudio criticising a
referee's decision? When did he last suggest he was
temporarily blind?

"Whenever Chelsea win he is always generous to the team we
have beaten. When we lose he gives full praise to the
winner. He sets the right example."

Bates also paid tribute to Ranieri for the way he has
handled all the speculation over his future.

"Claudio has been given a hard time ever since he arrived in
England but he has always maintained his dignity and sense
of humour," added Bates.

All very commendable. It is a pity that Bates couldn’t
follow the example himself. When an investigation into the
slightly dodgy issue of the ownership of Chelsea (and the
unknown offshore magic circle) was announced by the
Financial Services Authority, Bates called them “worms”. The
Takeover Panel got the same treatment at the time Abramovich
came to power, labelled “plonkers” by Bates.
