Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic has admitted the club will need to win ‘almost every game’ left to finish in the Premier League top four and qualify for the Champions League.
United have only won three of their last seven league fixtures and have disappointingly dropped points against Newcastle, Wolves, Aston Villa, Burnley, Southampton and Watford since Ralf Rangnick was appointed interim manager in December.
The team was also humiliated by Manchester City last month, as well as exiting both the FA Cup and Champions League at Old Trafford.
United are four points off the Premier League top four. Arsenal currently occupy fourth place and have the added advantage of a game in hand. There is also competition around them from Tottenham and potentially even still West Ham.
However, Matic is insistent it remains distinctly possible despite a recent slump in form.
“We need to finish in the top four, that is our aim and we will do everything we can to achieve that,” Matic told talkSPORT.
“I think we can make it, but, of course, we will need to win almost every game until the end of the season. I think it's possible and we will do everything for that and never give up.”
United return to domestic action after the international break on Saturday evening when Leicester are the visitors to Old Trafford. Rangnick’s team will then face Everton and Norwich, before a daunting trip to Anfield against Liverpool on 19 April.
Matic himself has only played sparingly this season, starting only 10 of 29 Premier League fixtures so far. The 33-year-old has a contract until 2023 but his time at United could come to an end sooner if the club is able to recruit well in central midfield in the summer.
