NEVILLE ON THE FA

Gary Neville with more advice for the FA:

"In other countries, when you're sent off, you miss the next
week's matches. Why can't we do it here? We don't want to
cause a furore but what happened this week fully justified
what we did last month with Rio Ferdinand.

"People think we're fighting on the issue of Rio and the
drugs but it wasn't that. It was the principle of making the
decision and pre-judging any situation. It has happened
again this month and now it will be sorted out and there
will have to be a change of policy. We couldn't get our
point across before the Turkey game last month but now
everyone will realise why we did it.

"What would have happened if the same situation had occurred
on the eve of the European Championships? Things now will
have to be set in stone. There are some good people at the
FA, and it's not as if we've been a million miles apart on
this."

Mark Palios, the FA's chief executive, has taken the brunt
of criticism following the Smith case, and Neville said: "I
don't know if I feel any sympathy for him. Last month he
took a lot of praise and this month it has been a lot of
criticism.

"It's a difficult job but you have to take the criticism if
you put yourself up there to be shot at."
