NEVILLE WANTED OWEN

Phil Neville thinks United have missed out on rebuilding by not being able to sign Owen Hargreaves.

"Owen Hargreaves is a fantastic player," said Phil.

"When you have English players in your club, it gives you that bit of steel because they can always relate to the fans and what the manager wants.

"That was the backbone for the success of United throughout the 90s when there were many Englishmen in the squad."

And on adding to his 52 caps for England he continued.

"I had fantastic times at Old Trafford but leaving has given me that little bit of a kick on in terms of my career.

"I am lucky enough to be vice-captain at Everton and captain in the first three games. Those opportunities probably wouldn't have come up for me at United."
