NEW LABOUR SPIN OR IRISH HONESTY?

Last week an unnamed United director was quoted as saying that nobody at Old Trafford had seen the Roy Keane book and now Ferguson is quoted at the weekend saying:

"It is a book about Keane's life and from what I've read it is an honest appraisal, the book was overseen by the club and we were aware of its contents. I see no problem with it, in fact, I can see it having a positive effect."

Red Issue is led to believe that, as a matter of courtesy Roy Keane did supply Ferguson with a copy of the book (minus the last chapter on the World Cup, which was still being written) prior to publication. Keane wanted Ferguson to know what was to be published and in doing so probably acted against the wishes of the publishers. We understand that the club consequently sought a number of changes to the text in advance of the serialisation in the Times.
