NEW LEEDS COURT CASE

Michael Duberry was yesteday alleged to have "He came up to me and he put his hand up my skirt and touched me on my vagina."

This came out in the trial of Martin Luther King, 33, from Leeds who denies kidnap, indecent assault and attempting to rape her in January last year.

From The Yorkshire Evening Post:

A woman has told a jury she was molested by Leeds United footballer Michael Duberry on the same night she was later kidnapped and sexually assaulted by a motorist.

She claimed he touched her skin below her underclothes and when she pushed him away Rio Ferdinand, "came up to me and he said 'If I don't slap you up I'll get someone else to.' "

The woman, aged 22, told Leeds Crown Court yesterday she was in the Hi Fi nightclub in Leeds city centre when the footballer approached her and without saying anything put his hand up her skirt.

She said the friend was meant to pay for the taxi home and, with no money left, she decided to walk to her boyfriend's nearby so he could get her a taxi. It was when she got there she was suddenly grabbed by the hair and shoved into a car.

She has told the jury her attacker drove her to a lane off Leeds Ring Road where he sexually assaulted her and held a gun to her head before she escaped.

Under cross-examination the woman denied she got very drunk that night. She said she had one bottle of Smirnoff Ice, a few sips from another bottle, plus a brandy and Coke and a tequila. She stopped drinking after that as she was on a Weight Watcher's diet.

She was looking for her friend when Mr Duberry approached. "He came up to me and he put his hand up my skirt and touched me on my vagina."

After she pushed him away Rio Ferdinand spoke to her, she said.

Mr Goose: "So you're saying without any conversation Michael Duberry put his hand under your underclothes and touched your vagina?" "It's true," the woman replied. "I've got no reason to lie."

She insisted Mr Ferdinand also made the threatening remark to her but said she did not know why.

She denied she was attracted by their fame. "I'm not starstruck."

She also denied that what she was saying about them was false. "No, it is not false because I wanted to prosecute them but it was not my decision in the end, because I was told it would be word against word. There was a formal complaint taken to Leeds United," she said.

Mr Goose asked if after she left the club she had sought a lift from King, offering to pay him £15 petrol money. "No that's a lie, that did not happen," she said.

The trial continues.
