Newcastle United will offer England full-back Kieran Trippier the biggest contract in the club's history to try to tempt him to St. James' Park in January, 90min understands.
However, there is no guarantee the Atletico Madrid defender will move in the new year.
A right-back is very high on manager Eddie Howe's wanted list and Trippier is his top target - but if Newcastle want him, the price tag is likely to be huge.
Sources have confirmed to 90min that Trippier - who wanted to move back to England in the summer when Manchester United held talks - remains keen on a Premier League return, but will take some persuading to join the relegation-threatened Magpies.
With that in mind, the 31-year-old will be offered wages of around £150,000 per week and a three-and-half-year contract by Newcastle, who would also likely have to pay a club-record fee - or very close to it - to secure his signature. Their current most expensive deal is the £39m they paid Hoffenheim for Joelinton in 2019.
But even a huge contract may not be enough to snare Trippier, as there remains rival interest in the England star.
Manchester United are continuing to be kept informed of his situation while we understand that Everton, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace are willing make a move too - if Atletico show an appetite to sell.
Last summer the Rojiblancos refused to do a deal with United and wanted his £50m release clause met. It remains to be seen whether Diego Simeone is willing to let Trippier leave this time around, which could see the club lower their asking price.
Trippier himself is determined to show form in the second half of this season, as he knows it will be crucial to his chances of making England's World Cup squad at the end of the year.
The former Burnley and Tottenham man is currently sidelined with a shoulder injury and will not be fit for action until January.
