The official site reveal:

‘Sir Alex Ferguson, meanwhile, revealed that it was his brother Martin who first brought Miller to his attention last year.’

Ferguson said:

“With Liam, my brother went on about him at the beginning of last October and said how well he had been doing with Celtic. I went up to see him against Anderlecht and I was impressed with several points about his game; his ability to see space in front of him; his running off the ball was superb.

“I thought, here’s a player who is different to what we have at United. That’s what really impressed me about the boy. By January we had made our mind up to bring him here, particularly as we had found out his contract was up at Celtic.”

Unfortunately, Miller will be absent from the club's USA Tour as he continues his recovery from a groin operation.

Sir Alex said:

“His recovery is coming along fine. We just feel that, having had that operation, he is much better off staying here at the training ground and going through a full recovery to be ready for the start of the season.”

Miller said:

“I’m very different from Roy in a lot of aspects. Playing alongside a player of that calibre, hopefully I can take on board anything he has to offer.

“In my mind, when I heard Manchester United were interested, there was only one club I wanted to join. It was as simple as that for me.”
