NOTHING TO HIDE

Gill on MUTV:

"The matter is affecting Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson recognises that. (see the related article)

"If the case came to a speedy resolution it would be in the best interests of all concerned but that is something for Sir Alex and Mr Magnier.

"Our job is to take a step back from the media frenzy and remember what we have here.

"Manchester United is the most successful club in England, both on and off the pitch, and it doesn't happen by luck.

"We had a turnover of £170m last year and made an operating profit of £50m. The vast majority of football clubs in the world would give their right arms for figures like that.

"We have achieved that situation by having fantastic employees in every facet of the club, including Sir Alex Ferguson.

"It may look easy from the outside but on the inside we know how incredibly hard it is.''

And on transfers:

"We believe our procedures are very rigorous, some of the best in football. But as a result of those unsubstantiated allegations, clearly we couldn't let the matter rest so we have started an internal review by finance director Nick Humby to look at it.

"Any changes or improvements that come out of that review will be implemented immediately.

"There are clear rules, not only rules inside Manchester United but also set down by the Football Association, by FIFA and by the Premier League, as to how transfers are conducted and how moneys flow.

"We clearly adhere to all of these rules, but let's look at these allegations and investigate them and we will see what comes out of it. Our conscience is clear.''
