OLD OLDS?

Manchester United are planning a £45million extension to Old Trafford which will create more than 8,000 new seats.

The new-look ground would hold 76,000 fans, making it larger than the country's current biggest - the 72,500-capacity Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

Old Trafford will still be smaller than other European super-clubs however, such as Barcelona's Nou Camp which has a 98,000 capacity. Planning officers will hold a special meeting to consider United's application next Thursday.

Councillors representing residents living near the ground fear there has been inadequate consultation about the new plans.

Coun Steve Adshead said: "For people living next to the ground, there is the height of the extended stands to consider, there are also horrendous traffic implications.

"You are talking about an extra 4,000 cars trying to get into the area."
