Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirms Edinson Cavani has recovered from injury

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an update on the fitness of Edinson Cavani, confirming that he is in contention for Manchester United's Premier League meeting with Aston Villa on Saturday.

Cavani has only featured once this season so far - coming on as a substitute in the Red Devils' Premier League meeting with Wolves - as he has been suffering with a muscle strain.

However, he could return to the fray against Villa with Solskjaer confirming he has made a full recovery.

"Edinson has joined in training fully after that game [on Wednesday] and he’s held his hand up and is ready," Solskjaer said (via the club's official website). "Last season as well, he didn't have a pre-season when he came here. He's so professional and meticulous and, of course, we're glad to now have him back training with us and in the squad."

With Cavani back in the fold, United only have Amad Diallo and Marcus Rashford out injured, leaving Solskjaer with some tough decisions to make in the coming days.

"We didn't lose anyone on Wednesday night," he added. "It gives me selection headaches, which is what I'd rather have than the other way around. Sometimes you have to leave players out that you don't feel deserve to be left out.

"But that's the nature of the beast and we've got to make sure we are ready for every single game."

United will be looking to continue their solid start to the season against Villa. The Red Devils have won four of their opening five Premier League games and are the competition's top scorers with 13 goals.

Despite this early promise, they were dealt a blow on Wednesday night when West Ham knocked them out of the Carabao Cup. United have also made a poor start in Europe, losing their first Champions League game to relative minnows Young Boys 2-1.
