Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that Manchester United supporters can expect to see Cristiano Ronaldo playing up front once his move from Juventus is completed.
An agreement is in place to bring the 36-year-old back to Old Trafford after 12 years, and was the culmination of a whirlwind 24 hours that saw Ronaldo confirm that he wanted to leave Turin amid strong links to United's neighbourhood rivals Manchester City.
But City went from frontrunners to mere spectators in the blink of an eye, dropping out of the race to sign Ronaldo after it became clear that he would prefer a move back to the club who helped develop him into one of the world's best players.
The deal is not fully done yet, but Ronaldo will put pen-to-paper a lucrative two-year contract that will see him become the highest paid player in the history of the Premier League. His return has inevitably rocked the football world, with new manager Solskjaer undoubtedly in for a barrage of Ronaldo related questions once the move is formalised.
For now, Solskjaer - speaking to the club's official website after United's 1-0 win over Wolves at Molineux - has offered up how Ronaldo will fit into his plans, discussing his probable role in the team, where supporters can expect to see him play and how the move came about.
“Cristiano has evolved as a player," he said. "He used to play wide right, wide left, up front but he’s more of a centre forward for me at the moment, definitely. There will be games we play with two up front or three up front but I want him in the box, I want him scoring goals.
“That’s football for you. Sometimes it happens. We’ve always been watching Cristiano. The one day he was going to move, we’d be interested. We never thought he was going to leave Juventus this season but when we did we had to speak to him, of course.
"Everyone that cares for Man Utd wanted this to happen and everyone played a part. But the biggest thing is that Cristiano wanted to come here.”
Ronaldo's first involvement could come after the international break against Newcastle on 11 September.
