OLE ON HIS WAY BACK

"I can't wait to get back. The surgeon told me it would take anything between nine and 15 months when he did the operation.

"If I look at the beginning of next pre-season that is nine or 10 months from the op, so I am hoping to be back on day one of next season. If I can do that I will be thrilled.

"I am walking, swimming and getting on the exercise bike now, but not running yet. I hope to start that in the New Year.

"I can even drive my own car now, and that is a relief.

"Every time they sing my name it sticks in my heart and gives me great motivation.

"Sir Alex Ferguson is almost my second dad because he has been so good to me. When there was an offer for me and I said I didn't want to go, he supported me."

He looks forward to playing with Rooney:

"I want to play with Wayne.

"He is a world-class player and he will learn so much by being here. He is made for Manchester United.

"His arrival has given everyone a boost and I just hope I get a few opportunities to play with him."

OGS has recently discarded his crutches and is hopeful of being able to start running again at the turn of the year as he looks to get back to 100% fitness.

That was something he was unable to do after similar surgery last year and, after suffering more discomfort during pre-season training, Ole decided there was no alternative other than to go under the knife again.

"In an ideal world I will finish my career with Manchester United.

"I have had periods over the last few months when I have felt down but I am determined to try and stay positive.

"I had the best surgeon in the world to operate on my knee and I am working hard to try and get back.

"I have had so many good wishes and I don't want to let them down by having played my last game."
