His representatives, The Stellar Group:

"Following quotes attributed to Ranko Stojic in the Manchester Evening News, the Stellar Group and Louis Saha would like to make clear the following:

"Louis had an exploratory operation and that went very well.

"It wasn't surgery as such and they didn't go into the knee fully. It was more than successful.

"He has been in rehab in the South of France for two weeks now and has been having treatment every day.

"Louis is getting his head down and working to be fit for the start of the season.

"In his mind, he is looking to be starting like everyone else for the opening to the new term.

"He expects to be ready when United's campaign begins."

The Telegraph:

The futures of two Manchester United strikers were filled with uncertainty yesterday with Alan Smith demanding to know whether he would be sold and Louis Saha's past and present representatives disputing when he would return from injury.

When Saha's former agent, Ranko Stojic, who arranged the Frenchman's £12.8 million transfer from Fulham in January 2004, said the player could take a further six months to recover from knee surgery, it would have rung some familiar alarm bells at Old Trafford.

Despite Saha's undoubted ability, his three years in Manchester have been dogged by injury. Towards the end of last season's campaign, manager Sir Alex Ferguson was making little attempt to disguise his irritation at Saha's absences in what, following Ruud van Nistelrooy's departure to Real Madrid, should have been a breakthrough season for the 28-year-old.

In 3½ seasons at Manchester United, Saha has managed 22 Premiership goals and has yet to better seven per season. Tellingly, he has yet to appear in more than half of United's League fixtures in any given campaign.

Discussing the striker's knee surgery in the United States, Stojic, who ceased to represent him six months ago, said: "Louis won't be on the field for a few months. I don't know when he will be able to start training again but he is looking to be back in November or December. Either way, it's going to be a while."
