ONE FOOT ON THE GRAVE(Y TRAIN)

Wenger demands his pound of flesh as he accuses his fellow Premiership managers of manufacturing the dismissal of Arsenal’s England medics John Crane and Tim Sonnex.

Unsurprisingly United appear to be the focus of attention.

From The Sun:

‘ though Wenger did not name names, it was clear he believes Manchester United were behind the complaints.

He said: "These two doctors are professional medical experts. They don't wear an Arsenal shirt and don't ask a patient if he is a Manchester United fan before they treat him.

"Do other clubs really think any doctor would say 'Oh, I won't treat David Beckham well and then he will not be able to play against Arsenal?'.

"Where does it stop? We could ask what is Steve McClaren doing with the national team because he works for another club and could be teaching my players bad habits.

"It is all so petty and I think the clubs should be above all that."

Wenger also scoffed at suggestions Crane and Sonnex were privy to confidential medical information which could have benefited Arsenal.

He said: "All doctors are bound by strict oaths of confidentiality. It is down to the FA who they want as doctors. Only they can really say why they let these two go but I do believe it was petty of the clubs who complained about them."

Wenger confirmed he will defend skipper Patrick Vieira after he was charged with misconduct by the FA last week.

Vieira is accused of swearing at Andy D'Urso after being sent-off during Arsenal’s 1-1 draw at Chelsea.

But Wenger insisted: "Our defence is that he did not say these things and also that the sending-off was very harsh and he is only human."

`In any case, I feel Patrick deserves to be defended on this. It would be irresponsible of the club not to do so.'

There is no mechanism in the FA's disciplinary procedure for an appeal against a sending off if it is the result of two yellow cards but that won’t stop Wenger and Arsenal asking for special treatment.

The ‘Footballer doesn’t swear’ defence can be found on the top shelf of every lawyer’s library, alongside the prosecution tome titled ‘players don’t go in hard to hurt opponents (unless they play for Manchester United)’
