The People:

An amazing Government U-turn means fatcat footy fans will down booze at matches - while ordinary supporters are banned from drinking.

'Ministers have pledged to end an alcohol ban on VIP boxes which threatened to cost clubs a fortune in corporate earnings.'

New laws on 24-hour drinking were designed to allow booze-ups in VIP boxes during matches but not in the stands. But in a bizarre Whitehall mix-up the Government accidentally banned ALL drinking in boxes.

Now the Lords has ruled that the corporate hospitality toffs can booze at games and the Department of Sport confirmed: "We will amend this law at the earliest opportunity."
