ONE THAT DIDN'T GET AWAY

From The Guardian:

‘The panel, chaired by Sir Robert Reid QC, and comprising Andy Williamson of the Football League, John Bramhall of the Professional Footballers' Association and Keith Burkinshaw of the League Managers' Association, overturned the League's original decision that the maximum punishment the club could impose on Wise was to fine him two weeks' wages.

Glen Clarke, chairman of Leicester City plc, had threatened to explore every legal avenue because he felt football should be no different from any other employment and that in any other business Wise's offence - breaking his team-mate Callum Davidson's jaw - would have warranted instant dismissal.

In a statement the club said: "Leicester City are pleased the Football League's appeals committee have today allowed the club's appeal against the decision that Dennis Wise should be reinstated. Therefore, in accordance with a statement previously issued by the club, Dennis Wise's contract is at an end."

The committee ruled that the League did not have the right to prevent Leicester sacking Wise and the club's chief executive Steve Kind added: "We're extremely pleased with the decision today. We feel the club has been fully vindicated."

Neither Wise nor his legal advisors were available to comment on a decision that has cost him £3m in lost wages.’
