Hooijdonk will likely be on the bench against Germany but has high praise for his team mate.
"Against Scotland he reached his top level for the first time, something he has done for PSV and Manchester United for many years," van Hooijdonk told Dutch paper De Telegraaf.
"He can grow to become the star man of the European Championship. He is focused for this European Championship, because it will be his first major tournament."
